Whitney Houston - National Anthem at the Super Bowl during the Persian Gulf War: RIP Whitney, one of the greatest voices of all time! She really set the standard here, and made people take note of different people's interpretations of the Anthem. My favorite part about her version is how she never loses sight of the beat and knows how to draw the notes out just right. For instance, I love when she gets to the part, "Ohhh sayyyyyy, does that starrrrrr, bangled...." because rather than randomly stretching out notes and having these awkward pauses, she instead slows the entire song down half-speed, turning those eight measures into sixteen, and that, imo, is why this version kicks so much ass!
